Many club members have enjoyed the privilege and thrill of running the Jerusalem Marathon. This year, we hope to again have a few club members on the course in 2017.
But what about the rest of us who can't make it, for whatever reason, whichever constraint? How can we participate?
Two years ago, we commissioned one of our race directors to approach the management of the race, and to ask if they would send medals, and perhaps, t-shirts, if we could get enough people to participate, by running 26.2 miles, whereever they were, on the same date, at the same time as the marathon. They told us that if we get enough people interested, they would be willing to work with us.
We found enough people, but had trouble working with the organizers to obtain goodies and recogniition.
We approached again this year, and the feedback was: okay, send some actual runners to us, and we'll be happy to send medals and shirts with them back to the states to hand out to the virtual runners.
We are going to do our best to hold them to it, so we need to know if those who can make it in person can help us out. Please be in touch with us.
As for the virtual crowd:
Club members are not interested in the cost of t-shirts, but very interested in medals. We're working on forging those as we speak, but will need sponsors.
Since we intend to run the marathon at the same time, and because Jerusalem will be 6 hours ahead of the Eastern US, the virtual marathon will therefore start at 1 AM.
The half marathon starts at 6:45 JST, and therefore starts virtually at 12:45 AM.
Run anywhere, with as many friends as you want, and remember to have your heart in Jerusalem.
